RemG Technology: Technology eliminate fire hazard in CA.

International Business and Technology Service Corporation (IBT) in collaboration with University of Nebraska, Lincoln (UNL) has developed and demonstrated a RemG: Remote Sensing for Grid technology that allow detection of error event along the Grid line. This technology is particular crucial to help reduce risk of fire such as events happened in the State of California over the past few years. With the mature of this technology, companies such as PG&E is able to make prediction and prioritize their maintenance tasks, effectively reduce risk of fires due to Grid and environmental interactions. As compared to existing technologies in the field, this technology has many benefits:

1. High accuracy: RemG technology has very high sensitivity and good linearity. With sensitivity up to 3 orders of magnitude higher than existing technology most utilized in the field.

2. Low cost: RemG provide ultimately the lowest cost, in terms of installation, operation and maintenance.

3. Safety: RemG installation, operation and maintenance is not in contact with Grid facilities, and does not interference with the Grid operations. It allows continuous monitoring even in emergency situation, further improve safety during emergency response and repair.

4. Low/no latency and high sampling rate: RemG sensor latency << 1 micron second, and sampling rate well exceed 1 MHz can be achieved.

5. Remote sensing: RemG provides measurement results while placed in meters away from the facilities or devices, while continuous provide data on the condition of operation. Enable both real time decision and off line data analytics and optimization of the Grid.

6. Small size, weight and power consumption: as compared to existing technology, size, weight and power consumption is orders of magnitude smaller.

7. Large dynamic range: RemG sensor can measure arc short to the Grid line or lightening hit, without concerns to be damaged.

8. Large temperature range and suitable for harsh environment: RemG can operate between -20 ℃ to 60 ℃, without complicated hardware compensation.

9. Long lifetime and high reliability: The projected sensor life time is very long and the failure rate per year is at the ppm level.
